Breast Augmentation

with implants

Mr Olivier Amar says: “My patients often tell me they want the confidence to wear form-fitting clothes, dresses with a low neckline or to have an elegant décolletage. Many simply wish to restore fuller, more youthful curves after pregnancy or weight loss.”

“Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, breast implants or breast enhancement can give patients the look they desire. This is why breast augmentation is the most popular type of body surgery in the UK. It can improve a woman’s self-esteem and make her confident in her body again.”

Breast augmentation surgery is an operation to enlarge and change the shape of the breast, usually using silicone implants. Alternatively, you may prefer to use your own fat tissue for natural breast augmentation. Because women are all different and each woman has her unique idea of beauty, Mr Olivier Amar offers a wide variety of silicone implants (Motiva and Sebbin). These include teardrop shaped implants for a natural, understated appearance, and implants with a more rounded shape which can help if women have lost volume at the top of their breasts or simply prefer this look.

Careful planning of your surgery is important. To help you better understand and visualise the effect of different sizes and shapes of implants or fat grafts, Mr Olivier Amar offers Crisalix 3D Surgery Simulator software as part of your pre-surgery consultation. This system first scans your body, then an on-screen image shows how you might look after the procedure. This process, combined with Mr Olivier Amar’s expert advice, will help you make decisions with confidence.

Women seek breast augmentation for many reasons. Some have genetically small breasts and would prefer what they perceive to be a more feminine shape. Others have asymmetrical breasts from a young age. Some may want to restore the fullness of their natural curves after pregnancy and breastfeeding, weight loss or natural ageing. Other women want a curvier shape for personal reasons.

Whatever your reason, Mr Olivier Amar is an experienced breast surgeon who understands how a woman’s body can affect her confidence and self-esteem. He treats every patient with discretion and the utmost sensitivity.

Breast augmentation is a safe, relatively quick and highly successful procedure. For your safety, Mr Olivier Amar personally examines every patient and takes a medical history before considering the correct course of treatment.

For breast augmentation surgery, an ultrasound or mammogram will be required in order to check the breast tissue.

Breast implants are introduced most commonly via an incision in the fold under the breast, or they could be placed via an incision in the armpit or around the areola, the darker skin around the nipple. Implants can be placed on top of the chest muscle or under the muscle. The latter gives a little more ‘padding’ for slim women concerned that the outline of their implant might be visible. There may be a scar of around 4cm located discreetly in the fold under the breast. Some women may require breast lift surgery (Mastopexy) at the same time as augmentation to address emptiness and sagging. This could be mastopexy with implants or with fat transfer.

Mr Olivier Amar’s extensive experience and expertise in using fat transfer have led him to be among one of the few masters to perform a dual breast enlargement technique. Layering a patient’s fat over the top of implants creates a remarkably soft and natural look, with a rejuvenated, smooth décolletage and a more organic feel.

Fat can also be used to enhance and refine the shape of the breast in women who have had previous implants but have experienced changes due to ageing or pregnancy.

If the edge of an implant has started to show, which can happen in slim women, a small amount of fat can discreetly mask this. The addition of fat transfer means every breast augmentation can be made entirely bespoke to a woman’s preferences rather than being reliant on the size and shape of the implants available on the market.

Mr Olivier Amar says: “Fat is the ultimate natural filler, so why not use it? You could have slimmer, leaner legs or a flatter stomach and beautiful breasts.”

For women who dislike the thought of silicone implants, Mr Olivier Amar offers the alternative of natural breast enlargement with fat transfer. Fat transfer or fat transplantation uses a patient’s own fat in place of implants. Fat is usually taken from an area where the patient has stubborn fat, such as the abdomen and thighs. This technique will not normally permit as much change in size as is possible with implants, but it is suitable for women who want a subtle, natural change to their appearance. It is important to remember that as your breasts settle down after surgery there will be a difference of between 20% and 40% between the number of fat cells grafted and the quantity which will survive long term.

All breast procedures with Mr Olivier Amar are performed as day case surgery. They are usually performed under total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA), a technique of anaesthesia which uses a combination of agents given exclusively via the intravenous route without the use of gas anaesthesia. This means you will sleep comfortably throughout the procedure and wake immediately afterwards with a significantly reduced likelihood of feeling groggy or nauseous. The anaesthesia will be explained to you by your anaesthetist during the preoperative consultation. Having surgery with TIVA allows you to go home the same day to rest and recuperate in comfort. Mr Olivier Amar’s practice is happy to arrange the procedure at a hospital with an overnight stay facility if you wish or assist with a nurse to stay with you overnight, as well as helping you find local accommodation after your surgery if necessary.

If you are considering breast augmentation, it is important that you schedule a consultation first. During your in-depth consultation you will have the opportunity to describe your hoped-for outcome and Mr Olivier Amar will be able to inform you about your options.

Any proposed treatment will be explained in detail. This will include outlining exactly what the procedure will involve, any necessary preparation, your recovery and possible complications and risks related to the anaesthesia and surgery. You will be able to ask as many questions as you wish and hear about the benefits and drawbacks of any proposed procedures before you decide the next steps together.

Because everybody is unique, Mr Olivier Amar takes an integrated and personalised approach, and no two patients will have exactly the same treatment.
