Dermal Fillers

What is dermal filler treatment?
Dermal fillers are injected to help diminish facial lines and creases, restore lost youthful fullness to the face and sculpt the features for a more balanced and defined appearance.
Fillers are probably best known for improving the volume and definition of lips or cheeks. But today, they are increasingly being used to enhance and shape other areas of the face such as the jaw and chin.
Mr Olivier Amar uses only fillers made of an absorbable, non-permanent form of hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of healthy, youthful skin.
Why consider dermal filler treatment?
As we age, our faces naturally lose subcutaneous fat. Smile lines and crow’s feet become more apparent. We may develop hollows under the eyes and cheeks can appear flatter.
Dermal fillers can be helpful alone or as part of a comprehensive, bespoke programme of facial rejuvenation. Mr Olivier Amar uses a gradual, step-by-step process to ensure a refined effect.
I often see women who are concerned that fillers will not look natural. I can reassure them that when treatment is done in an elegant, discreet way, they will look subtly rejuvenated without appearing to have had anything done.

Did you know?
What happens during the treatment?
For your safety, Mr Olivier Amar personally examines every patient and takes a medical history before considering the correct course of treatment for them. If fillers are the right treatment for you, he can apply numbing cream or use filler mixed with a numbing substance (Lidocaine) before carefully and delicately injecting an appropriate filler to achieve your desired result.
What areas can be treated?
You might consider dermal fillers to:
- Plump thin lips
- Restore the curve of the cheek
- Create the illusion of higher and more prominent cheekbones
- Soften facial wrinkles and folds, such as those on the forehead, between the brows and from the nose to the corner of the mouth (the nasolabial fold)
- Reposition the downturned corner of the mouth
- Define and sculpt the jaw and enhance the chin for a balanced, youthful and structured jawline
- Improve the appearance of bumps or other irregularities on the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty)
- Remove under-eye hollows and shadows for a less tired appearance
- Fill hollows at the temples to subtly lift the outer brow
- Restore a smooth and youthful contour to the face
What are the alternatives?
In expert hands, dermal fillers are an effective and safe way to rejuvenate the face. Mr Olivier Amar successfully treats many patients in this way. However, fillers are most suitable for patients with reasonably firm, elastic skin.
It is important to understand that treatments may need to change as you grow older and the proportions of your face change. In patients with an excess of sagging skin, fillers may no longer give them the natural rejuvenated look they desire. At this point other approaches, such as a minimally invasive face lift or neck lift, may offer a better outcome.
CAN ANY OTHER PROCEDURES BE DONE AT THE SAME TIME?
If you wish, Mr Amar can perform Plasma rich platelet (PRP) in combination with dermal filler treatment to boost the skin’s radiance and luminosity, improve texture and reduce the visible signs of ageing.
How long does dermal filler treatment last?
Hyaluronic acid fillers are naturally and safely reabsorbed by the body over time. The absorption rate depends on factors including the concentration and type of filler used and the patient’s own metabolism. HA fillers can last between a few months to a year.
Additional injections will be required periodically, generally within 6-12 months to maintain optimal results.
When will I see the results of dermal filler treatment?
You will see results immediately, though there may be some initial swelling.
How should I prepare for dermal filler treatment?
It is best to arrive at your appointment with your skin as best prepared for your dermal filler treatment as it can be. This would ideally include not drinking alcohol for 2-3 days prior to your appointment to lessen the risk of bleeding and bruising, as well as having had plenty of rest the night before your treatment to ensure you arrive feeling calm and relaxed.
It is also advised that you do not consume ibuprofen and aspirin for 1 week prior to your appointment as these can also thin your blood making bruising more likely.

What can I expect after dermal filler treatment?
Soon after treatment there may be slight bruising, redness, swelling and tenderness after the injections. This is a normal side effect of the treatment, it is only temporary and should disappear in one to three days but can last up to a week.
How long do I have to wait to return to normally activities following the treatment?
You should avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours to prevent moving the filler or increasing blood flow to the face. You can return to your day to day activities immediately after your treatment.
