What is chin and jawline contouring?

If you are unhappy with a weak chin or jawline, dermal fillers can improve facial harmony without surgery. The accurate placement of an appropriately selected hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler at the angle of the jaw, in the chin and the jowl area, can recreate an aesthetically youthful and structured jawline. A short, weak chin can be made to appear longer and more defined, and a jowly jawline made to look more firm and contoured. Mr Olivier Amar has an artistic eye and specialises in creating a subtle and completely natural look with non-surgical chin augmentation.

Adding as little as a few millimetres to the projection of the chin can create a subtle but transformative improvement to facial proportions, leaving patients with a more defined jawline and balancing the profile. Mr Olivier Amar offers state-of-the-art, non-permanent dermal fillers for jawline and chin sculpting for both men and women.

Why consider chin and jawline contouring?

The shape of your lower face can be decided by your genetics, or you may see changes that occur with age. Treatment is safe, quick, non-invasive, non-surgical and results are almost instant.

The correct combination of treatments and a light touch are all important when it comes to helping you achieve a better version of yourself. The result is elegant and refined.

Patients often come to me because they are self-conscious about the appearance of a weak chin, a softening jawline or the start of jowls. Creating a sharper, more defined jawline with dermal fillers can rebalance the proportions of your whole face, creating a more sculpted, naturally youthful appearance.

What areas can be addressed?

Dermal filler treatments can:

  • Strengthen a weak or short chin
  • Improve the proportion of the nose to the jawline
  • Restore the youthful ‘V’ shape of the face.
  • Soften the crease that forms above the chin with age.
  • Soften the angle of the chin
  • Sculpt and lift sagging skin and jowls.

What happens during the treatment?

Before treatment, Mr Olivier Amar will examine your features and bone structure carefully from all angles as part of his Profilometry assessment and take a medical history. To ensure your comfort before treatment, numbing cream can be is applied.

Mr Olivier Amar prefers to administer hyaluronic acid filler via a blunt-ended cannula. Cannulas can follow the natural curves of the face and are generally safer and more comfortable than needles. Delivering filler this way also reduces the risk of swelling and bruising.

Enhancement can be performed in stages, adding filler in small increments until you have the contour you desire, without the risk of over-treatment.

For many patients, enhancing the natural curves of the cheeks and restoring lost volume with filler can subtly tighten the lower face as well as creating a more feminine appearance in women, or a more masculine one in men. Mr Amar can perform cheek enhancement at the same time as your jawline definition treatment.

HOW LONG DOES DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT LAST?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are naturally and safely reabsorbed by the body over time. The absorption rate depends on factors including the concentration and type of filler used and the patient’s own metabolism. HA fillers can last between a few months to a year.

Additional injections will be required periodically, generally within 6-12 months to maintain optimal results.

Can any other procedures be done at the same time?

The jawline area is affected by many complex changes as we age. These include bone loss, changes to fat distribution and skin laxity. While filler alone can produce remarkable results in many patients, it may not be suitable for everyone. Mr Olivier Amar can offer many surgical and non-surgical jawline treatments to create a personalised, bespoke plan for lower face enhancement and rejuvenation.

This might include the use of your own fat by fat transfer as a natural filler to enhance and sculpt the jawline and chin, localised, minimally-invasive, micro-cannula liposuction to improve a double chin or heavy neck and muscle relaxing injections to refine and reduce the volume of the muscles which contribute to the look of a square jawline. Surgical options may include a mini face lift and neck lift.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR DERMAL FILLER TREATMENT?

It is best to arrive at your appointment with your skin as best prepared for your dermal filler treatment as it can be. This would ideally include not drinking alcohol for 2-3 days prior to your appointment to lessen the risk of bleeding and bruising, as well as having had plenty of rest the night before your treatment to ensure you arrive feeling calm and relaxed.

It is also advised that you do not consume ibuprofen and aspirin for 1 week prior to your appointment as these can also thin your blood making bruising more likely.

What can I expect after dermal filler treatment?

Soon after treatment there may be slight bruising, redness, swelling and tenderness after the injections. This is a normal side effect of the treatment, it is only temporary and should disappear in one to three days but can last up to a week. If any of these symptoms persist longer than a week, or if you develop other symptoms, please contact our office for advice.

How long do I have to wait to return to normally activities following the surgery?

You should avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours to prevent moving the filler or increasing blood flow to the face. You can return to your day to day activities immediately after your treatment.
