What is mini tummy tuck surgery?

A mini tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is a procedure to remove sagging skin on the lower abdomen only, leaving you with a smoother, tauter, firmer stomach. It is not as invasive as a full tummy tuck, so there is less scarring.

Why consider mini tummy tuck surgery?

Having a baby, losing weight or just getting older are all reasons why you may have loose skin below the navel. No non-surgical treatment can remove this excess skin. A mini tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure, so the ideal candidate will be in good health, close to their healthy weight and will not require muscle tightening.

Loose skin and tummy bulges often leave women feeling self-conscious, particularly when they are wearing fitted clothes or swimwear. A mini tummy tuck can help you to feel confident about your body again.

Did you know?

What happens during the procedure?

During a mini tummy tuck, an incision is made close to the pubic area, in the bikini line. This incision is usually similar in size and position to a caesarean scar. Indeed, if you have a previous caesarean scar, Mr Olivier Amar can utilise this and even improve the scar at the same time. Excess skin, along with any stretch-marks on it, will be carefully removed, and the remaining skin pulled taut and stitched into place.

Will I have obvious scars following mini tummy tuck surgery?

The resulting scar is placed so it may be concealed when you are wearing underwear or a bikini and should soften and fade with time.

Can I combine a mini tummy tuck with liposuction?

Mr Olivier Amar can perform liposuction at the same to help remove stubborn fat and leave you with a slimmer and firmer abdomen. If you opt for liposuction, Mr Olivier Amar can utilise the fat that he removes for body contouring, augmenting the breasts and buttocks and for facial rejuvenation if this is desired.

What form of anaesthetic will be used?

They are performed under total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA), a technique of anaesthesia which uses a combination of agents given exclusively via the intravenous route without the use of gas anaesthesia. This means you will sleep comfortably throughout the procedure and wake immediately afterwards with a significantly reduced likelihood of feeling groggy or nauseous. The anaesthesia will be explained to you by your anaesthetist during the preoperative consultation.

Will it be possible for me to stay in hospital following my procedure?

Mini tummy tuck procedures are both performed as day surgery. Having surgery with TIVA allows you to go home the same day to rest and recuperate in comfort. Mr Olivier Amar’s practice is happy to arrange the procedure at a hospital with an overnight stay facility if you wish or assist with a nurse to stay with you overnight, as well as helping you find local accommodation after your surgery if necessary.

How do I achieve the best result and ultimately my desired physique?

A combination of dieting and exercise is key to a good result, however a good candidate for this procedure is someone who has realistic expectations and is in good health. Radiofrequency treatment by Renuvion can be discussed for skin tightening and to support healing.

Am I required to wear specific clothing following surgery?

After mini tummy tuck surgery, you will need to wear a soft, elastic, compression garment similar to a binder for between two and four weeks to support recovery during the healing period which is easy to hide under your clothes.

How can I compliment my overall result?

What can I expect after mini tummy tuck surgery?

There will be dressings for about two weeks after surgery. Initially there will be bruising in the incision area, this should settle down between ten and 20 days but continues to improve with time. Swelling appears in the first few days after surgery, this should settle down between 5 and 15 days. Mild discomfort can last up to 4 weeks, but gradually subsides over the next 4 to 8 weeks.

You will be asked to come in for a post-operative nurse appointment one week and two weeks after your surgery. At this point your incision sites will be reviewed, stitches removed and your preliminary healing will be assessed. You will come back at six week after surgery to be reviewed by Mr Olivier Amar.

How long do I have to wait to return to normally activities following the surgery?

Depending on your type of daily activity, you will usually be able to resume your normal activities after two to three weeks and return to gentle exercise after four to six weeks.
