How PRP Treatment Works: Step-by-Step

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an advanced, regenerative treatment that harnesses the body’s natural healing abilities. This treatment uses the regenerative power of your own blood, which is centrifuged to separate and concentrate the platelet rich plasma. This process creates a concentrated solution rich in platelets and growth factors – the key components responsible for tissue repair and regeneration. PRP treatment can effectively boost skin radiance and luminosity while improving texture and reducing visible signs of ageing.

  • During your PRP treatment, Mr Olivier Amar will draw approximately 15ml of blood from your arm, similar to a routine blood test. Your blood is placed in a specialised centrifuge for five minutes, carefully separating red blood cells from the plasma and platelets. Mr Amar utilises the advanced and safe Regenlab RegenACR system.
  • This process creates a concentrated solution rich in platelets and growth factors – the key components responsible for tissue repair and regeneration.
  • Your skin is thoroughly cleansed before making four tiny entry points for a blunt tipped cannula. This specialised cannula allows for gentle, even distribution of the platelet rich plasma beneath the skin’s surface, focusing on areas around the cheeks and mouth.
  • Following injection, the skin is gently massaged to help distribute the healing plasma evenly under the skin, maximising coverage and effectiveness.

Advanced Facial Rejuvenation

Mr Olivier Amar specialises in facial rejuvenation treatments. As every face is unique and we all age in different ways, he will conduct a comprehensive facial assessment, carefully developing a tailored approach to help patients achieve subtle, natural rejuvenation.

Treatment protocol

A course of treatment typically involves 4 sessions of PRP with one session every 3-4 weeks, with ongoing maintenance treatment every six months recommended. Typically, most patients see noticeable results after three treatments with enhanced quality of skin occurring after each subsequent treatment.

Preparing for Your Treatment

Aim to arrive to your appointment with your skin as best prepared for your PRP treatment as it can be. Pre-treatment guidelines would ideally include:

  • Avoid ibuprofen and aspirin 48 hours prior to treatment
  • Avoid alcohol 2-3 days before treatment
  • Get adequate rest the night before
  • Eat a light meal and stay hydrated
  • Avoid all steroidal anti-inflammatory agents, essential fatty acids, gingko biloba, garlic, flax oil, cod liver oil, vitamin A and vitamin E 7 days before treatment, as we want to create inflammation
  • Clean skin thoroughly before treatment

Recovery guide

Immediately after treatment you may experience bruising, mild redness, swelling, tenderness and itching at the site of the treated areas. Most patients find that any side effects subside within 2-3 days.

No downtime is required and you can resume normal activities immediately, avoiding strenuous exercise for 24 hours to prevent increasing blood flow to the face. As with all facial treatments, you should avoid direct sun exposure until any bruising subsides, continue using SPF 50+ protection and follow our recommended skincare routine.

Maintaining your results

Everyone’s skin is unique and therefore reacts differently to treatment. Some patients will notice immediate results, while others may see gradual results that appear over time. Typically, most patients see noticeable results after three treatments with enhanced quality of skin occurring after each subsequent treatment.

An important step in maintaining healthy and clear skin is to create a consistent treatment routine. You may need a maintenance session after eight months to keep ongoing skin conditions under control and preserve results as skin ageing continues. The treatment can be repeated yearly. It is also recommended that you commit to wearing sun protection daily and follow an at home skincare regimen.

Combination treatments

To boost skin hydration and enhance collagen production on the face and neck, some patients opt to introduce Polynucleotide injections. Polynucleotides are an injectable bio-stimulator treatment that harnesses natural polymerised polynucleotide based injectable gel technology to effectively restore skin firmness, tone and elasticity. The treatment involves a series of polynucleotide injections that stimulate skin regeneration from within. This comprehensive approach restores skin tone, enhances hydration and visibly reduces wrinkles, resulting in radiant, luminous skin with improved texture and diminished signs of ageing.

Some patients opt to support their results of PRP treatment with Aerolase Neo laser treatment for skin rejuvenation. The laser treatment stimulates natural collagen production, which is essential for improving skin firmness and elasticity, smoothing rough texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and minimising enlarged pores. Typically, most patients see noticeable results after four treatments with enhanced clearance and quality of skin occurring after each subsequent treatment.
