After Surgery Care

All surgical procedures are teamwork between the surgeon and the patient. Mr Amar believes that if you feel prepared for surgery then you will arrive for your procedure feeling positive, which in turn will reduce any anxiety and encourage a stress-free recovery.

During your consultation you will have the opportunity to describe your hoped-for outcome and we will have a discussion about your options. Any proposed treatment will be explained in detail. You will be able to ask as many questions as you wish and hear about the benefits and drawbacks of any proposed procedures before you decide the next steps together.

You will be offered a second consultation free of charge to allow you to think about any proposed treatment. This ensures that there is plenty of time before surgery to address any questions about the procedure and review procedure information consent forms so that you have a clear understanding and ask any questions that you may have prior to your surgery day.

Preparing for your procedure

As soon as you know that you may be having an operation, it is helpful to think about how you can be as healthy and as fit as possible for surgery. You should get good rest, eat well, take gentle exercise and keep hydrated. Caffeine and alcohol consumption should be limited. Fitter patients recover from surgery more quickly and experience fewer complications.

Before leaving the clinic, you will be given discharge paperwork. Mr Amar will write to you by email the day after your surgery summarising your aftercare recommendations, received verbally on your day of surgery.

Post-op appointments

It is your duty to come for nurse and follow ups when appointments are given. In order to monitor healing it is mandatory to attend post-operative appointment as part of your care. Failing to follow post-operative appointments may impact your results and final outcome.

You will be asked to come in for a post-operative nurse appointment one week after your surgery. At this point your incision sites will be reviewed, stitches removed and your preliminary healing will be assessed. You will come back at six weeks after surgery to be reviewed by Mr Olivier Amar.

Important telephone numbers

After your surgery you will have full access to a 24/7 nursing telephone support line should you have any questions or queries, day or night, relating to your recovery and pain management.
