Kerastem Advanced Hair Therapy
What is Kerastem advanced hair therapy surgery?
Kerastem advanced hair therapy is a super enriched fat tissue transfer. It works by using your own natural fat and regenerative stem cells (stromal vascular fraction), injected into the scalp. Around 200-300cc of fat is extracted by liposuction and broken down through enzymatic digestion, producing on average 5ml of regenerative cells which contain adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells.
A small amount of fat, 10-20cc depending on centimetre square of the scalp to be treated is processed separately through purification and reinjected into the scalp along with the regenerative stem cells. There, they combine to provide a rich, fertile environment which regenerates and stimulates the scalp.
Why consider Kerastem advanced hair therapy surgery?
Patients treated with Kerastem experience thicker and fuller hair and see new hair growth in balding and thinning areas. Because this stem cell treatment only uses your own biological tissue, there is no risk of rejection or allergy.
Unlike a conventional hair transplant, a Kerastem stem cell hair loss treatment is subtle and discreet. Even though you see results faster than with a surgical transplant, there are no stitches, no scars and your hair grows in a natural way. Patients who are fit and healthy with typical male or female pattern baldness or alopecia and no other medical conditions can consider Kerastem stem cell hair loss treatment.
The secret to Kerastem advanced hair therapy, known as a stem cell hair loss treatment lies in your own natural body fat, which is particularly rich in regenerative cells with stem cells capabilities. Restoring a fat and stem cell rich environment to the scalp creates a safe, powerful treatment for triggering growth and restoring lost hair.
Did you know?
What happens during the procedure?
Kerastem stem cell hair loss treatment is performed as a surgical day case procedure under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia. The procedure is minimally invasive and takes around 90 minutes. A small amount of fat is extracted from your abdomen by liposuction, around 200-300cc.
The fat tissue is then broken down through enzymatic digestion to obtain the regenerative cells (stromal vascular fraction) which will be gently injected under the skin of the scalp. A small amount of fat is processed separately and mixed with the regenerative stem cells to create a super enriched fat which is injected into the scalp.
Will I have obvious scars following Kerastem Advanced Hair Therapy?
There are no visible scars on the scalp after treatment, only some bruising which is to be expected with any injection.
How can I support my results?
Kerastem has brought back fat cells and regenerative cells to the scalp and through PRP treatment, the platelets can help to drive the cell division activation. PRP, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma, is a natural, non-surgical treatment that uses the regenerative power of your own blood. Blood contains platelets and other cells that naturally work to heal damaged or aged tissues. Platelets play a vital role in healing by releasing growth factors, which are proteins that stimulate the growth and repair of specific tissues.
WHAT FORM OF ANAESTHETIC WILL BE USED?
Kerastem advanced hair therapy is performed under total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA), a technique of anaesthesia which uses a combination of agents given exclusively via the intravenous route without the use of gas anaesthesia. This means you will sleep comfortably throughout the procedure and wake immediately afterwards with a significantly reduced likelihood of feeling groggy or nauseous. The anaesthesia will be explained to you by your Anaesthetist during the preoperative consultation.
WHAT EFFECT CAN SMOKING AND ALCOHOL HAVE ON MY stem cell and FAT GRAFTING RESULTS?
Certain lifestyle factors can increase the risk of complications during and after your surgery. The most common impact of smoking before your surgery is that it increases your chances of developing an infection and inhibits your body’s natural healing processes. We insist that all patients stop smoking and using nicotine products at least six weeks before surgery. Reducing alcohol intake is also strongly advised. This is particularly important for fat grafting surgery in which the fat’s viability post-procedure is materially reduced in a smoker population.
HOW LONG DOES THE SURGERY TAKE?
The procedure may take between 60-120 minutes.
What can I expect after Kerastem advanced hair therapy surgery?
The recovery downtime is quite minimal, you will need to wear a soft, elastic, compression garment for between two and four weeks to help with skin retraction, reduce swelling and assist your recovery during the healing period. The garments are easy to hide under your normal clothes. Bruising should settle between ten and twenty days.
You will be asked to come in for a post-operative nurse appointment one week after your surgery. At this point your incision sites will be reviewed, stitches removed and your preliminary healing will be assessed. You will come back at six week after surgery to be reviewed by Mr Olivier Amar.
How long do I have to wait to return to normal activities following the surgery?
Depending on your daily routines, you will usually be able to resume your normal activities after two to ten days and return to gentle exercise after three weeks.
